Band Performs Medley Of Hit Songs Using The Same Four Chords

I’ll be quite honest when I say that I hadn’t heard of the Axis of Awesome before this video. They’re an Australian comedy act that was formed in 2006 and perform numerous things including parody covers alongside their original songs.

Despite the band’s performances and growing popularity, they weren’t able to ever garner a hit song/performance; they couldn’t quite put their finger on it until the band’s keyboardist, Benny Davis, said that he knows exactly what they need in order to have a hit under their belt—”It’s because we never wrote a four chord song. All the greatest songs from the past 40 years just use four chords. The same four chords for every song. It’s dead simple to write a pop song.”

His bandmates didn’t really buy the idea that all the classic hits from the past have been sung with 4 chords. Watch how Benny starts to sing to prove to his friends that not only do all the popular songs use this common mantra, but also that singing them in this way can also make for great comedy.

It’s not long before his friends also start belting out these fan favorites and have their crowd roaring in laughter! What started off as Benny’s example of one song turned into a full 38-song performance, all sung with the 4 chords.

Do you think their song now deserves to be labeled as a “hit”? We’d love to know what you think in the comments below!

In the meantime, watch this performance of the Axis of Awesome in the video below. Don’t forget to like and share it with family and friends, and give them a good laugh!
