10-Year-Old Invents Device To Stop Children From Dying Of Heatstroke

Each summer there are a handful of incidents in which children, and even pets, are left inside a hot, parked car, unattended by their parents and/or guardians. In most unfortunate cases that have made the news, the young children are often not strong enough to fight off the effects of the sweltering heat, and this results in their death.

Inspired by the tragic death of a neighboring 6-month-old baby, 10-year-old Bishop Curry from McKinney, Texas, decided to take matters into his own hands and make a device that can save the lives of children who are left in hot cars with no source of air conditioning.

His gadget is called the Oasis and it acts as a tool to monitor the temperature of the car. Once the car has reached a certain temperature, the Oasis will begin to omit cool air and use an antenna connection to alert authorities and parents of the child. Bishop decided that it was time to do something about the matter when his infant neighbor died while sitting in an over-heated vehicle.

Bishop is an expert at making gadgets and useful protocols, but the Oasis might just be his biggest and most important invention yet. Although he only has a clay model of the device that can potentially save hundreds of lives, he and his dad have raised $24,000 through a GoFundMe page to help kickstart this project and patent it.
