Sleeping In A Cold Room May Be The Secret To Losing Weight And Living Longer

If you like sleeping in cooler temperatures, give yourself a congratulatory high five because science has just given you their study-backed seal of approval. That’s right, no more fighting over the thermostat. Keeping cool while you sleep is the best way to sleep because it provides you with a myriad of health benefits.

More specifically, sleeping in the cold can increase the quality of your sleep, promote melatonin (hello, anti-aging!) help you lose weight by boosting your metabolism, and reduce the symptom of sleep apnea and fibromyalgia. All of that while avoiding a night of sticky sweat? That sure does sound like a good deal to me!

Your body naturally regulates your temperature but you’re going to want to take some steps to help stay cool. If you’re feeling too hot under your sheets, untuck them and consider removing some of your clothes or even, dare I say, sleep naked! Also, try keeping your feet sticking out so that heat can escape.

Of course, if you’re lucky enough to have air conditioning, I probably don’t have to tell you to turn down your thermostat. In fact, scientists recommend your thermostat be set between 60-67 degrees Fahrenheit. If this isn’t an option for you, consider using a fan. While a fan doesn’t actually affect the temperature, it moves the the humid air away from you so that your sweat can evaporate more efficiently.
