Compassionate Dog Rescues Stranded Earthworms

Believe it or not, our conversations always come down to dogs—and we can’t be blamed! Dogs are lovable, loyal and compassionate, and not many people can have enough of them! When it comes to being compassionate, I think it’s safe to say that some pups are even more so than humans. Don’t think? Well, keep reading and you’ll find out why we say that.

Holiday is a border collie/German shepherd mix. She was rescued from Felines & Canines in Chicago when she was just a puppy and has been living with her family since. Holiday has a unique personality, and one of her hobbies includes rescuing worms.

Now, this may sound funny but in all honesty, it has to be one of the most compassionate things I’ve seen a dog do for another living creature. The canine’s owner explains that Holiday gently picks up the worms from the hot road (as seen in the video below) and places them on the grass—it’s significantly cooler. Even when she is on her walk, Holiday looks out for stray worms and insects that she can possibly rescue from the heat.

Her owner says that the dog was never taught to do this but there is a way she may have picked up on this kind and thought-provoking habit – the owner’s mother. When Holiday was just a puppy, his grandmother would take worms from the road and throw them into the grass, so this can explain Holiday’s actions for sure.

They say that it’s been about 1.5 years since the dog started rescuing bugs and insects and I love watching her thoughtfulness.

Watch Holiday in the middle of her rescue mission in the video below. If you enjoyed this video as much as we did, then don’t forget to like and share this post with family and friends.
