Dog Steals Money From Owner’s Purse But Is Willing To Give It Up For Some Treats

If you’ve ever had something stolen from you, you are aware of how that makes you feel. You feel violated and distrustful; it’s not a pleasant experience. But what if that thief is in your home and is a beloved family member? And what if they truly mean no harm?

My mother’s little dog is a thief. Often, when I go to visit, I will lose a few things. Nothing important, just a pen or even a tissue from my pocket, perhaps the napkin, and occasionally a utensil from my plate at dinner time. She’s tiny, adorable, and very, very sneaky. She will disappear quickly, without anyone realizing that she is there, and her newest acquisition is added to the bizarre little stash she keeps buried in her bed.

Like the dog in this video, she is trained to return her stolen possessions for treats—a tactic recommended by dog trainers. However, this method can have some unexpected, albeit humorous consequences.

Casi Cook’s dog, Holly, an adorable labrador, has learned to steal money, and then use that cash to pay for her treats! It all started when Holly was just a young pup and started rummaging through her mom’s purse. Out of all the things she could have claimed for her own, Holly liked to steal cash. Casi was understandably afraid that her curious new puppy would eat the cash, which would be unhealthy for the dog, not to mention an obvious expense. So, she solved the issue by giving her a treat when she gave her the stolen money. She may have underestimated her adorable dog’s intelligence, however. Holly learned that cash ‘buys’ her coveted treats, so now she steals cash just to exchange it! She even has her stash of about $90 to trade for treats when she wants them.
