27 Years Later Ex-Olympian Tonya Harding Hits Ice To Attempt Famous Triple Axel

With the 2018 release of “I, Tonya” based on the very controversial, two-time Olympian Tonya Harding, starring Margot Robbie as Tonya, the real Tonya is skating her way back onto the scene. But now, the story is different, and according to her, feels like her story is finally being told.

Tonya made a name for herself during the 1991 US Figure Skating Championships when she flawlessly executed a triple axel in her routine.

No stranger to publicity, Tonya shares what she’s been doing with ABC News since the film has come out to rave reviews. She expresses how she’s been feeling more motivated with the attention and is now back on the ice, which she refers to as her “sanctuary.”

She wants to sharpen her skills and says she feels great in her skates, “…as long as I don’t fall on my butt. I’ve taken some hard falls. I know I have to take things a little slower. I want to get back to doing the things I love to do which is my triples.” It’s been 27 years since she broke records, she was 20 at the time.

Although she’s past her prime, she’s still got the passion and the moves. Check out the video to catch a quick intro about the film and some words from Tonya herself.
