A Pair Of Giant Hands Emerged From A Venice Canal

There are so many things awe-inspiring moments that we experience throughout our lives, sometimes even throughout our day. They come as little, usually pleasant, surprises that make our day better, and sometimes even give us a story to tell once we’re back home with family and friends.

One such day occurred on May 13 for some of the locals (and even for the tourists who saw this) in Venice, Italy—there was a pair of “god-like” hands that were emerging from the canals up against the historic hotel called Ca’ Sagredo. The hands are a gigantic sculpture, a part of the 2017 La Biennale di Venezia, which is an annual art exhibit.

The sculpture is titled “Support” and is picking up steam around the world for all the right reasons. It’s not only a huge tourist attraction, where people can take loads of pictures and brag about seeing these giant hands in person, but the reason why it’s there is also something to pay attention to.

Artist Lorenzo Quinn is the creator of this massive piece of art and he wants the hands propping out of the canal to inspire support in time when Venice is threatened by the drastic effects of climate change. He hopes to spread awareness of the negative impacts of climate change all around the world and hopes that his sculpture will inspire others around the globe, and not just in Italy. He refers to climate change as a “calamity”.

The hands represent support and the help that the world needs to fight climate change, and what better way to start an initiative so important with this piece of art in the art capital of the world, Venice, Italy.
