How To Turn An Old Pair Of Jeans Into A Purse

Everyone out there probably has a favorite pair of jeans, and there’s a good chance that you only wear them at home. They’re comfortable, soft, and worn thin in all the right places. Maybe they have holes in them, or they’re not really in style anymore, but you still love them.

It takes time and wears to turn a new pair of jeans into an old favorite. It’s such a shame that those perfect denim pants don’t have a real use anymore—or maybe they do. You can repurpose an old, favorite pair of jeans, or even just a pair of jeans that don’t fit anymore, into an adorable handbag. It takes a little bit of sewing skill, and even though I’m ‘sewing challenged,’ I’m pretty sure even I can complete this craft. This cute, stylish purse even makes a great gift!

Things you need:

  • Old jeans
  • Chalk
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Sewing kit
  • Iron

Easy Instructions:

  1. Use a ruler and chalk to draw two straight lines across the crotch line of a pair of old jeans. Cut across the chalk lines to remove the pant legs.
  2. Turn the rest of the jeans inside out, then sew them shut and flip back. Iron the stitched edge of the jeans.
  3. Draw a square around the pants button, then cut it out and sew the waist together. Sew the button to the back waist, aligning with the buttonhole.
  4. Use the chalk and ruler to draw a straight line on the pant legs, then cut on the lines to make a strap for your bag.
  5. Separate the straps into two pieces of fabric, then sew them together. Sew the strap to the left and right sides of your jean bag, near the belt loops.
