If you like the popular TV show “America’s Got Talent” and have been following it since the time that it first came on television, then you’re no stranger to Terry Fator. Terry Fator not only auditioned for the first-ever season of the series, but he also went on to become the winner of the show.
Everyone presents a variety of skills and talents on the AGT stage—the most common and well-liked ones include dancing and singing. But Terry had something else in store for his audience, and the AGT judges, back in 2008. He was going to show everyone how to win a crowd over with ventriloquism.
A ventriloquist is someone who, with the help of a dummy/puppet, will make it seem like there are two different people in the room having a casual conversation. Obviously, puppets and dummies don’t talk (or do they?), so it’s actually the ventriloquist himself who is in charge of taking out these voices and making them individual. And that is quite the talent!
Terry mastered this talent and took everyone by surprise when he showed up to present his first-ever act on AGT, and it’s beyond impressive. Since then, the man has been performing far and wide, and his performances come with different dummies/puppets; he’s known to use 15 different puppets for his acts which mean 15 different voices and personalities. Not only is Terry able to convince the crows that it’s his puppet who’s the great conversationalist, but it’s also the puppet’s amazing vocal talent. This is double the treat! Typically, ventriloquists are good at projecting their speaking voice, but as you’ll quickly notice in this video, this man can sing – he can sing really well.
Who knew speaking and singing as a puppet could look so easy? Spoiler alert: It’s totally not. Let it be a testament to his talent. If he’s making it look easy, you know he’s gotta be good at what he does. It takes hours, if not years of practicing to pull off the perfect routine!
