How To Properly Store Ice Cream And 8 Other Kitchen Hacks

Who doesn’t love a good life hack right? Especially when all these hacks really do make life oh-so-much easier. Now enter a set of hacks for what you’re most passionate about—fishing, painting, or how about even cooking?

With the growing passion for being creative in the kitchen, we’re sure there are many of us out there who can use a nifty trick here and there that can make the creative thinking process in the kitchen a bit more seamless. Because otherwise, we’re all thinking about how to save that half-eaten avocado from turning brown—are we right, or what?

So, in light of the most common kitchen complaints that make the rounds, we present to you the following kitchen hacks that will make such a difference in the life of every chef, (inspiring or not!):

1. Added too much salt to your dish? Don’t sweat it—throw a small chunk of raw potato into your creation and let it absorb all the excess salt right out. Leave the potato in the dish for 10 minutes.

2. When storing your ice cream container in the freezer, put it in a ziplock bag. This will ensure that the ice cream inside doesn’t freeze to a point where it hardens—this also ensures that you’re no longer bending all the spoons and scoops!

3. Boiled eggs for breakfast? Throw in 1/2 a teaspoon of baking soda into the water and watch the egg shells slide right off.

4. Does your cake recipe require an uncomfortable amount of butter to be used? Substitute the butter with your favorite apple sauce. So, if you’re instructed to use 1 cup of butter, give 1 cup of apple sauce a shot instead.

5. Wrap bananas (from the stems) in plastic saran wrap in order to maintain freshness and also to impede the ripening process. Because no one likes to eat bruised bananas!

6. Store unused, and cut, avocado with a chunk of onion. This will ensure that the avocado doesn’t go brown. Evidently, you can always use it the next time you’re feeling a little bit of guacamole!

8. Don’t like eating stale cereal? Spread the cereal on a baking tray and pop it into the oven for 5-10 minutes and it’ll taste good as new.

9. Regular lemon water drinker? Freeze lemon slices and drop them into your water when you’re craving the citrusy beverage. The flavors and juices of the frozen slices will dissolve into your water a lot quicker than slices right out of the fridge!
