I try to limit my laundry to once a week—it may add up throughout the days but I know that I have ample time to devote to cleaning the clothes on the weekends. Although I do have time on the weekends (sometimes) to do as much laundry as I want, I often find myself thinking that I can use some laundry-related shortcuts to help me quicken some processes.
I had some that I was using here and there, but I think the list below is a super lifesaver. It gives you easier ways of ironing, washing your clothes, and drying them—what else do you need when you’re looking for shortcuts!
9. Ditch the dryer sheet
No need to run back to the store if you forget your box of dryer sheets—ball up some aluminum foil and throw it into the dryer.
8. Write to yourself
Take a dry erase marker and write yourself a note on top of the machine, reminding you of what clothes to wash separately or what sweater needs to be hand washed. This will save a lot of your clothes!
7. Get rid of the creases
Although hangers are lifesavers, we all know they have a bad reputation for creasing clothes—now there’s a way to get rid of those creases. Using a serrated knife, cut a pool noodle to appropriate size, make an incision running across the top and slip it onto the hanger.
6. No more armpit stains
Take a small bowl and mix the following ingredients: 1 tsp liquid Dawn soap, 3 tbsp hydrogen peroxide, and 2 tbs of baking soda. Scrub the mixture onto the stain with a brush, you’ll see the results!
5. Use flat iron for wrinkles
A flat iron can work to create crisp collars!
4. The ice cube trick
Instead of ironing your clothes, toss your wrinkled clothes into the dryer with a handful of ice cubes. The moisture that builds up will have your clothes looking crisp in only 10 minutes!
3. Have some chalk on hand
Have you been using Tide-to-go to get rid of grease stains on clothes? Try chalk and you’ll never go back to anything else.
2. You’re 1 ingredient away from unshrinking that shirt
Soak your shrunken shirt into a tub of warm water mixed with a squeeze of hair conditioner. Leave it in the tub for 15-20 minutes, wring out the water and let it dry on a towel. The shirt will be back to normal in no time!
1. Use a razor as a lint roller
It’s super simple! Use a razor to gently peel off the lint that often accumulates through the dryer.
