Military Dog Gets Adopted After Spending Her Life Saving Others

We’ve heard it over and over again that a dog is a man’s best friend. Regardless of how many times I hear a story about a dog’s loyalty, I never tire of listening to these heartwarming tales. With that said, we’re sharing another one here with you in, through the video below.

A dog from Afghanistan named Layka has proven to be a watchful pet of the family she belongs to. She was a part of the combat dog team deployed to Afghanistan; her type of breed is known to be best suitable for high-tension situations. One day Layka and her team heard gunshots and got caught in the middle of gunfire.

During the firing, a soldier sent the dog to a nearby building so she can clear it of any attackers that may be there. Layka was successful in doing so, saving so many lives, but was wounded with four gunshots to the body. Although the doctors were able to save her life, they couldn’t save one of her legs which was amputated. Layka was in for a long recovery period.

Sgt. Julian McDonald, who is Layka’s handler and trainer felt horrible for what happened to the dog. It was at that point that Sgt. McDonald decided that he would give her a life-changing gift—he was going to adopt the dog and give them a peaceful life ahead.

The adoption process wasn’t easy because people said that she was an aggressive dog, but he didn’t give up. Today Layka lives with him and his family and the two always spend quality time together.
