Remember back to the hot summer days as a child, when all you wanted to do was beat the heat the best way possible? Since staying inside wasn’t an option, you’d find different ways to stay cool outdoors during the holidays. For example, having ice cream under the shade of a gigantic tree; swinging extra long on the swing to get that breeze to hit your face for as long as possible before you get nauseous; or, what about walking down the street and running through every sprinkler you see. As parents would say, “monkeying around” was always in full effect, all summer long.
Well, the term “monkey around” is still alive and well in this footage, and it has everything to do with monkeys! These creative and industrious creatures have turned their otherwise hot and uncomfortable day into a fun few hours by the pool. While it looks like they’re just fooling around, I beg to differ and would argue that these wild macaques are total problem solvers. They made the most out of their sticky hot situation.
Instead of roasting in the heat, these little furry monkeys sought a better – and much more amusing – escape from the harsh sun.
Somewhere in the streets of India, there’s a small pool conveniently located beside a tall lamppost. This troop of wild macaques has adopted this area as their territory, taking over the space as their personal pool and reprieve. What’s even more intriguing is the monkeys’ fearlessness and pursuit of adventure and excitement. The youngsters are climbing the lamppost that appears to be pretty high up, and jumping off of it into the narrow water below!
They’ve adopted this as a sport with the whole family supporting and cheering, and even egging on the next diver by giving them a little push! One youngster climbs to the top and shows a teeny bit of fear as he nervously looks down. He hesitantly musters up the courage while more family members queue up behind him. A relative perched beside the young monkey gives him the last “shove” he needs to make his decision and pushes him over the edge!
The young monkey soars through the air and lands, safely, with a cool and refreshing splash. He’s helped out of the pool feeling much cooler and confident! This clip is incredible, and captures such human tendencies in monkeys!
