Man Explains How Plastic Bottles Left In The Car Can Be Dangerous

I never leave the house without a water bottle. Everyone around me knows that when I’m heading out the door, the first thing I collect after my purse is a bottle of water. You never know when you’ll need some hydration! The one thing that I need to be more mindful of is taking the bottle out of my car every time I park and get out. This practice is not only important to keep my car clean but there’s another reason for it as well.

Everyone has left a drink of some sort in the car. You could have left your coffee in the cup holder while you make a quick bank run, a case of pop cans in the trunk ahead of your next BBQ, or a water bottle can be sitting there for days on end without you putting it in the recycling bin. We should always be careful of what we leave unattended in our cars, especially the ladder of the list above.

In the video shared below, Dioni Amuchastegui tells us exactly what happened when he left a water bottle in a hot truck, one afternoon. He returned to his truck for lunch one day when he noticed that there was a curl of smoke coming from the passenger seat. He knew right off the bat that something was wrong. There was water in the bottle and what had happened was that it refracted the light from the sun and it made the temperature high enough to start a blaze on the passenger side. Dioni thought quick on his feet and immediately removed the water bottle before further damage could occur. Although there was nothing serious that went wrong, his passenger seat now has two burn marks. If he hadn’t come out when he did, who’s to know what would have happened? And who would have thought that a plastic water bottle could spontaneously start a fire when placed in the sun?

Experts say that we need to be wary of what we leave behind in our cars. Other than plastic bottles, glass jars can also be responsible for starting these types of small fires. It’s a huge safety hazard.

All-in-all, it’s best to keep your car free of unneeded and unwanted junk, you never know what can pose a hazard!
