9 Household Products That Have An Expiry Date

Believe it not, but everything comes with an expiry date. We may think that we only have to worry about food expiring (because obviously, no one wants to eat moldy cheese), when in essence pretty much every item around the house has a certain lifespan. Don’t believe it? Continue reading.

Ever thought that it was maybe time to throw away that pillow you’ve been using of ages? Or how about your bath towel? These are things that most of us take the most advantage of (since we use them on a daily basis) yet hardly think of replacing after a certain period of time.

But it may just be time to replace some of the most used items in the house and go a little shopping spree. See what needs changing below, and add it to your list!

1. Pillows: 2-3 years

It’s only natural for a pillow to succumb to wear and tear because it’s used every single day.

2. Slippers: 6 months

You may love those warm and fuzzy house slippers, but change them every 6 months to avoid fungus build-up.

3. Shower Pouf: 6 months

Shower utensils tend to house mold a lot quicker so it’s important to chuck your pouf out every 6 months and replace it with a new one so you’re not cleaning your body with a moldy sponge.

4. Towels: 1-3 years

We’d say they’re a part of “shower utensils”. Bath towels are actually a huge environment for bacterial growth because we hang them up on hooks to dry, and after a while, even washing the towels doesn’t help fully clean them. Time for a change.

5. Toothbrush: 3 months

It’s super important that you buy a new toothbrush after a cold/flu because the germs and bacteria from your sickness will linger on there. Another sign that it’s time for a new brush: the bristles are starting to come out.

6. Hairbrush: 1 year

They say it’s important to clean your hairbrush every week and replace it once a year. If you use a hairbrush made of natural boar bristle, then it’s best to be replaced every 7-10 months.

7. Perfume: 1-3 years

Perfumes that contain essential oils can be stored for up to 3 years (if not opened) and 2 years if already in use.

8. Bra: 1-2 years

Signs that it’s time to throw your bra away: it’s lost shape, has minimal elasticity and is getting uncomfortable to wear.

9. Spices: 1-3 years

If you leave them hanging around for a while, spices will lose their taste and aroma. If the spices are ground, be sure to use them up within 6 months.
