It seemed like just another day at work for Jessica Dunbar, a waitress at a Red Robin in Polaris, Ohio. But when a group of nine officers showed up in her section, Jessica immediately knew that something was off. The officers were in a particularly serious and somber mood when she overheard one of them say “It’s always a rough day when you’ve gotta put a brother in the ground.” That’s when Jessica realized that the officers had just come from the funeral for a Columbus, Ohio SWAT Officer named Steven Smith, whose death was on the news. This touched Jessica deeply, as her own father is a retired police officer and she grew up watching him put his life on the line every day. So she wanted to do something to help out the officers and show her appreciation.
