6 Strangers Witness Car Accident After Mom Checks Social Media While Driving

Where would we be without cars? Not very far, of course! We rely on them to get to work and to visit friends in the city or family in the country. They’re made for road trips and helping you move houses. Driving is such an important part of everyday life for most people, and so much time is spent whipping around in this main form of transportation. For some, it’s an extension of who they are because they’ve become so comfortable in their ride.

Every day spent in your vehicle would naturally make you feel like it’s part of who you are – you know how it drives, you know where everything is, it’s customized to your settings, etc. All of these factors would make anyone feel extra relaxed while being in their car. You feel like you can multi-task, like you can take your eyes off the road to check your phone, only for just one little second…

In the profoundly hard-hitting public service announcement from AT&T, as a part of their “It Can Wait” campaign, the topic of distracted driving is brought to light. And it really hits home. Hard. Prepare yourself for a dose of reality in this beautifully shot, exceptionally well-written and acted commercial that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.

It all starts out innocently. The video is building the characters and setting the scene. It’s a 3-minute series of vignettes that include different characters all surrounding the plot of a mom and her child in one car, and a man driving to a game in another car. It ends in a devastating collision that expresses the sentiment of how social media can wait to be looked at when it’s safe – not when you’re driving. At the apex of the collision, the video rewinds, and we see what happens had the mom not looked at her phone.

This ad serves as a very important reminder: distracted driving is dangerous. You should never risk your life, or the lives of others, to check your phone, reply to a text, and even worse, post a quick car selfie on your Instagram. All of this can wait until your safely parked up and ready to take on the rest of your day. Make safety your priority, always.

This is a heart-stopping PSA that everyone could benefit from looking at.
