When I was a child, my parents put me in swimming classes. To be honest, I never liked it very much because I was never good at it. My technique wasn’t too bad but the main problem was my endurance… my endurance was, quite frankly, atrocious. I felt like I was constantly gasping for air and by the end of each and every lesson, my entire body would be completely exhausted. At that point, I just wanted to go straight to bed. So perhaps that’s why I’m always so impressed by people who are able to swim or play water sports at a competitive level. I mean, I’m just happy to keep my head above water so that I don’t drown. Meanwhile, you have elite athletes, such as the members of the UK synchronized swimming team, who will proceed to completely blow your mind with their performance.
Synchronized swimming basically takes a lot of things I’m bad at—swimming, dancing, gymnastics, and strict timing—and blends them into a single sport. As you might imagine, it requires a tremendous amount of skill and years of practice with dedicated teammates. And given that artistic impression is a key element in this sport, you’ll often find teams wearing colourful custom swimsuits and headpieces. So when the UK synchronized swimming team picked out their costume, they decided to take a very fun approach.
In the video below, you’ll see these ladies wearing some rather bizarre costumes that ensured that all eyes remained on them. And now that they have your attention, pay close attention to their mesmerizing gymnastic skills… these women are incredible!
