With the invention of smartphones, camera phones, and ever-present social media, it’s difficult to keep a secret anymore. All it takes is opening up Facebook, or your preferred social media app, on your phone and you will see all kinds of information. Some of that information you will be thrilled to see, and other you won’t really care about at all, and there will be plenty of things that you probably wish you hadn’t seen, ever.
My newsfeed is filled with charming stories about my friends’ children, families, and spouses along with updates about who has a cold or flu this week, who is in a new relationship or their relationship has ended, and who has a cool new job or has moved to a new state. More than any one type of post that I see, I see many meals that people post. I may have been guilty of this type of sharing once or twice, but I have more knowledge of my friends’ dining habits than I ever could have imagined pre-Facebook.
Because of all of this oversharing, it’s hard to imagine that anyone could keep any secret, let alone a huge secret, like the birth of a baby. In fact, most of my friends with children or grandchildren have shared nearly every stage of the pregnancy, complete with ultrasound photos and staged maternity shoots and even pictures from the hospital only moments after the baby was born.
So, when one family decided to hide that they were having twins, it came as quite a surprise to all of their friends and family. But, as you will see from the reaction in the video, their secret plan was totally worth it!
