Identical Twins See Each Other For The First Time And Have An Adorable Conversation

When I was younger, I always thought that it would be so much fun to have an identical twin. Why? Well, being a kid, I having an identical twin meant being able to play endless pranks on people and I also possessing some form of ESP… y’know, like telepathy. Or maybe a TV deal like the Olsen twins on Full House? Geez, I really miss the hijinx of the original Full House. Wait, what was I talking about? Oh yes, identical twins!

The truth is that while identical twins develop from a single fertilized egg and therefore have the same genome, environmental factors can result in the siblings grew up to be vastly different. But while they’re still young and likely sharing the same environment, some very interesting things can happen. For example, have you ever heard of “twin talk?”

Twin talk is also known as idioglossia. “Idioglossi-wha?” It’s not quite ESP but idioglossia is an autonomous language that is created and shared between twins. That’s right, twins can form their own lingo so that they can speak with each other before they learn a more formal language. In fact, according to one research study published in the Journal of Institute of General Linguistics, about 40 percent of twins make up their very own language!

While it’s super adorable now, think of the trouble these two can kick up into their teen years! Mom and dad won’t know what hit them when they start to plot about sneaking in after curfews or fooling teachers and classmates. Think of all the fun pranks they can pull because they look alike. The possibilities are endless! I always wish I had a twin exactly for this reason, ever since I saw “Parent Trap” as a kid. Enjoy it, parents, it won’t last forever!

But in the meantime, it’s pretty darn cute. In the video below, 3-month-old identical twins see each other and interact with each other for the very first time. The sounds that they make may sound like pure gibberish to us but it really does look like they’re beginning to learn how to communicate with each other. It’s so sweet how they start to touch each other’s faces, exploring and questions who the heck this other soul is beside them. Plus, it’s totally adorable.
