Mean Customer Refuses To Sit Near Special-Needs Child. So Waiter Denies Man Service.

This story will undoubtedly restore your faith in humanity. It’s a story that proves just how beautiful human beings can be when they show kindness and love. And it all takes place at a Laurenzo’s restaurant in Houston, Texas.

Kim Castillo and her young son, Milo – an adorable chap with special needs, frequented said-restaurant for dinner one evening in 2013. They were greeted warmly by staff who knew them by name, as they were friendly and loyal returning customers. On this specific day however, their visit made headline news.

While Kim and Milo were enjoying their meal, they noticed that a family who were seated next to them, suddenly moved tables. “We were sitting there and all of a sudden I noticed that the family across from us got up and moved to the back of the restaurant,” Kim said, with the thought of ,”I wonder if they’re moving because of us?” running through her head.

Kim casually brushed off her negative thoughts until she and her server, Michael Garcia, heard the man complaining loudly. “Special needs children need to be special somewhere else,” he said, without a shred of guilt or discretion. It was then that Garcia was overwhelmed with emotions. “It was very disturbing. My personal feelings just took over and I told this man, ‘I’m sorry, I can’t serve you'”, Garcia said. The family, in utter surprise, quickly left the restaurant.

Garcia then received encouraging praise from customers and fellow staff for his stunning act. “It upset me because he’s a five-year-old little boy. He’s an angel. He’s precious!” Garcia said.

Kim was entirely grateful and in awe of the fact that Garcia had stood up for them. “What went through my mind was that I was just so impressed and felt so good that somebody would stand up for another human being,” she said.

And just like that, a somewhat dismal story turns into one of hope and inspiration. It is truly magnificent the way in which one small act can either make or break a person’s spirit. At the end of the day, kindness really doesn’t cost a single cent.
