A White Lion And White Tiger Had Babies

Until recently, I didn’t know that a liger was an actual animal. It turns out that this rare cross between a lion and tiger is 100% real. While ligers are rare themselves, some extremely rare ligers are causing quite a stir. That’s because these new liger cubs have unique parents—they are the offspring of a white tiger and a white lion. Yeti, Odlin, Sampson, and Apolo are four of the rarest cats in the world, and they happen to be adorable!

The little bundles of fur’s parents are Ivory, a white lion, and Saraswati, a white tiger. White lions and tigers are nearly as rare as ligers. There are about 1,00o ligers in the world (white or otherwise), and there are just 1,200 white tigers and 300 white lions. The cubs and their parents reside at the T.I.G.E.R. Sanctuary in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Also in residence is Hercules, a rare white liger which is the biggest cat in the world according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Despite his enormous size, Hercules is known for his gentle nature and even enjoys playing with the new cubs. The cubs are growing quickly, however, and Hercules may have some competition for ‘biggest cat’ in the near future. Yeti is the largest of the four cubs and based on his growth, he may mature to a larger size than Hercules. While they are all small and cute as cubs, they will grow to be more than 750 pounds!

Each of the four little ligers has his unique personality. From housecat-like to a rambunctious big cat, they each bring something different. Their handlers are certainly going to have their hands full as these little guys grow up.
