A Woman Left Her Car After A Night Of Drinking And Found A Note On Her Windshield

Paula Grzelak-Schultz and her husband enjoyed a fun night our in Sherwood Park, Alberta. Their evening included a meal at ‘Original Joes’ and a few drinks. When it was time to leave, the couple realized that they didn’t want to drive after drinking. It didn’t seem worth it to risk a ticket or arrest for drunk driving, or worse, an accident in which they were injured or an innocent person could be injured. So, they made the smart decision to take an Uber home. They arrived home safe and sound.

Unfortunately, though this was obviously the responsible choice, people often choose to drive because they don’t want to leave their vehicle parked overnight. They don’t want to risk coming back to a car with a boot or no car at all because it has been towed. Paula returned in the morning and found her car intact, and with a note…

The surprising note read:

“Dear Original Joe’s Sherwood Park Guest,

Just wanted to thank you for leaving your car parked overnight. I’m not sure if you had consumed alcohol at our restaurant or not, but we wanted to thank you for not drinking and driving. Enclosed is voucher good for 1lb of our delicious chicken wings. Please accept this as a thank you for being responsible. Life is valuable, have a great weekend.”

Rather than punish patrons like Paula for leaving their vehicles, Jay McLean, the managing partner of ‘Original Joes’, has decided to reward them for their responsible behavior. Drunk driving is the cause of many deaths and injuries every year, and this restaurant is doing their part to help reduce the problem. Every establishment that serves alcohol should see this and consider doing something similar, or at the very least, not punishing people who leave their cars overnight.
