Woman In Wheelchair Can’t Go Up The Stairs. But Then The Man Hits The Button.

Each day, I get out of bed, walk to my bathroom, step in the shower and go about my day. Throughout the day, I do a number of normal things like drive my car, walk into the grocery store, and walk up the front step onto my porch and up another step into my house. In fact, if I think back on any normal day, most of the things that I do involve going up or down a step or stairs or using things while standing up.

I have no experience, but I imagine that the world looks much different to a person that spends much of their life, and of course their days, in a wheelchair. This means that all the things that I think of as “simple” are quite complicated for them. Imagine just your morning routine and then consider all of the other things you do during the day, but imagine doing them in a wheelchair.

The reality is that more than 2.2 million Americans face these challenges every day, and succeed. But, there are certain things that one simply cannot manage in a wheelchair, like going up stairs. Many public places have provided ramps and wheelchair access, but some still have not.

The Allgood Trio, however, is determined to help make all places wheelchair accessible and their clever invention, the Sesame Stairs, is a “step” in the right direction. In the video below, watch how with a push of a button, a seemingly normal set of stairs transforms into a wheelchair-friendly lift in a matter of seconds. Hopefully, this genius solution will become the norm!
