99-Year-Old Veteran Hasn’t Missed A Workout Since He Served During World War II

Fitness experts tell us that there’s no excuse why we can’t partake in a regular workout routine. My response, “Do you know most people’s lives?” Many folks are juggling a full-time job, rambunctious kiddos, and a handful of adult responsibilities. I don’t even have kids of my own yet, and the most workout you’ll get out of me is an 18-minute, one-mile walk around my block. And, maybe just maybe, I’ll engage in a few sets of squats in the privacy of my home. But a 10-minute commute to the gym, an hour-long workout, and a 10-minute ride back home a couple times a week is just not my jam! (No offense to dedicated gym rats.)

But I sure admire those who do their absolute best to keep physically fit. 99-year-old war veteran, Nat Hines, is one of those people who has caught my attention. Ever since World War II, Hines has never missed a single workout. That takes a lot of determination!

Like me, you might be curious how Hines stays so motivated.

“I can be at home, and if I haven’t exercised, and I say, ‘I’m gonna put it off until tomorrow,’ and a little voice will come and say, ‘You get out of here and go exercise.'” Hines explains. “I don’t know where the voice is coming from, but I hear something, but it’s not vocal, but I can hear it, and I just get up and go exercise.”

There you have it, Hines’s trade secret: just do it, as Nike would say.

Hines admits that he has arthritis in his back, but he doesn’t let that stop him from staying fit! If anything, working out helps with his pain.

When asked what other people have to do to look as good as him, Mr. Hines responds that you first have to get started; get up and get moving. (Let’s be real, most of us have yet to do this, so really, it’s logical advice.)

Although Hines’s words of wisdom are quite simple, deciding to workout really is that easy. With a drive to keep active, a smile on his face, and a good attitude, that’s exactly how this 99-year-old veteran keeps up with each and every workout.
