Rescue Dog Saves Toddler From Snake

I can’t stress enough that dogs and humans work so well together. It’s no wonder that a lot of people find loyalty and companionship in their family dogs — they’re so loving and reliable. It’s even more imperative to teach young kids to love and respect their pets because their relationship can go such a long way. Pups just know what to do in times of need, and they’ve helped out many children in serious situations.

When the Svilicic family of Atherton, Australia, took in rescue dog, Khan, they had no idea that it would be the dog who would rescue their little girl, Charlotte. Catherine spoke of Khan’s background:

“When Kerry Kinder (Doberinling Boarding Kennels owner) rescued him, he was starving, had broken ribs and had been beaten—he was an abused dog,” she said. “It was borderline on whether or not he should be put down because he was in such a bad way.”

Fortunately for the Svilicics, Khan survived his rough start in life. They had only had Khan in their home for four days before he was once again fighting for his life. But first, he fought for little Charlotte’s.

“Khan was really concentrating and was acting aggressive towards Charlotte and kept trying to nudge her but it wasn’t working, so he grabbed her by the back of the nappy and threw her more than a metre,” Ms. Svilicic said. “If I had not seen it with my own eyes, I would never have believed it.”

It happened in an instant, but Khan had actually placed himself between the toddler and a very poisonous snake. The dog was bitten in the foot and collapsed. They rushed him to the vet where he was administered anti-venom and because the snake wasn’t able to inject a large amount of venom, Khan survived the ordeal. Now, he’s a hero and the family plans on showering him with the love and affection he so clearly deserves.

According to Catherine, he’ll even get to live a luxurious life from now on. “If Khan wants a gold bowl, Khan gets it. We owe him for the rest of his life,’’ she said.

Has your family pet ever saved you? We’d love to hear about it in the comments!
