Being kind to someone doesn’t cost a cent. It’s when people feel it’s their duty to offend or be rude to others, that things start to get messy. But unfortunately, as the video below clearly proves, some people really don’t believe in being empathetic and generous to others. In fact, they would rather say something that is out of order and somewhat ridiculous in an attempt to show off or prove their beliefs. This, at the end of the day, is part of what is wrong with the world today.
Luckily, the video below also highlights another important message—the fact that servicemen and women are selfless and hard-working individuals who compromise themselves and their families in order to give others a life worth living. This is, of course, the message that we hope you take away from this video today.
In it, you will see a veteran conducting a social experiment by ordering food from a fast-food restaurant. He persists to ask the cashier if they offer a discount to veterans but before the server could answer, a woman behind the gentlemen decides to pipe up. Before even launching into her opinion, the woman was quick to show just how unimpressed she was with the young man’s ask by saying a very passive-aggressive, “Wow.” Then shares what’s on her mind.
The woman expresses her thoughts by saying that all servicemen and women are entitled and that they merely use their veteran status for personal gain. But things quickly turn as the gentleman decides to tell his side of the story – and not in a preachy way. The young man is tasteful and honest and could have totally taken it the other way to become angry and defensive instead of taking the few moments to “school” the woman.
In a calm and rational manner, he explains to the woman the truth of what it’s like for veterans in a way that flips the script and makes it really easy for her, and the people around, to digest. He took one for the team and for veterans worldwide. Her reaction? She lost her appetite.
