Cockatoo Is Confused When Owner Disappears During The ‘Fluff Challenge’ Trick

Things travel very quickly on the internet: news, videos, photos, rumors, you name it. Of course, internet challenges also fall into that same category. Remember the ASL Ice Bucket Challenge, Chubby Bunny, Try Not to Laugh, Mannequin Challenge, Planking, Touch My Body or even the Cinnamon Challenge? The list goes on and on.

However, a new one has recently surfaced the web. It’s known as the What the Fluff Challenge. Participants hold a blanket covering themselves in front of their pet, then let go and quickly run to make it seem as if they’ve “disappeared,” in an attempt to get a reaction out of their dog, cat, bird, or whatever animal they own.

But in one What the Fluff video, Angel the Cockatoo’s reaction is going viral across the web, and you’re going to love it!

In the video, a young man is seen standing with a red plaid blanket. He pulls the blanket up to block himself in front of his white cockatoo who is perching on the couch. He takes it down to reveal to the bird that he’s still there and then pulls it back up. As he does this, Angel seems to understand that even when his owner is covering himself with the blanket, he’s still there.

However, what Angel’s owner does next completely proves that the cockatoo has developed object permanence. The owner lifts the blanket once more, then darts out of the room at the speed of light as the plaid blanket drops on the floor.

The bird expects his owner to be behind the fallen sheet, but he isn’t. Seconds later, the bird looks down on the floor at the flat blanket. Angel dips his head further down just to “make sure” that what he’s seeing is true: that his owner really isn’t there behind the blanket after all!

Shortly later, the bird lets out several alerting cries, and he opens his wings as if he’s trying to say, “Help, help!” Then Angel runs across the couch looking everywhere to see if his owner ended up somewhere else, but he is nowhere to be found. Poor Angel!

Then his owner reappears, and the bird stops screaming. He seems a little angry at his owner for giving him such a fright, but also quite relieved that he is safe and sound. Whew, that was a close one!

Have you ever tried the What the Fluff Challenge on your pet? If so, what was your pet’s reaction?
