Boy Walks Into Police Station With Sign Around Neck. The Cops Read It And Immediately Give Him A Hug.

The world is a scary place. As adults, we see all of the threats that are around us. We do everything we can to keep ourselves and our families safe. But, it’s important that we don’t spend too much time dwelling on fear, whether of the unknown or the known. We can’t let it define our relationships, home life, and interactions with other people and the outside world.

When it seems that fear and danger are overtaking our lives, it’s easy to retreat into ourselves and the safety of our own homes and familiar people and environments. But, this is not a solution and only allows danger and fear to breed and multiply, completely unchecked. The only way to truly eliminate the danger and the fear that comes along with it is to step out into the world and cross the divide that separates us from others.

This sounds great in theory, but it may be difficult to implement into out lives and our communities. You may not know where to start, but it doesn’t really matter where you start, as long as you make that first step.

A five-year-old North Carolina boy named Jayden Hooker has a lot to teach each of us about facing our fears and taking a step. With his own community embroiled in turmoil, with protests erupting and violence occurring between police and protesters, he wanted to do something to help.

Specifically, Jayden understood that he was afraid and that other people, including the police, must be afraid, too. So wearing a sign with the words “Free Hugs” written on it and carrying a box of donuts, he went into the police station. On that day, he touched the hearts of so many and reminded everyone what is truly important. Understanding….and hugs.
