9-Year-Old Boy With Down Syndrome Sings Whitney Houston Hit

5 years ago, the music world lost a legend when Whitney Houston tragically passed away at the age of 48. One of music’s famous “divas,” Houston never failed to impress audiences and fans with her incomparable vocal range and star quality. For me, her performance, both musical and acting in the film “The Bodyguard” cemented her in my memory as one of my favorite artists. Even if you didn’t enjoy the actual movie with its music, action, and romance, the soundtrack is still incredibly memorable and even won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 1992.

The Bodyguard Soundtrack brought us songs like “I Will Always Love You,” “I’m Every Woman,” “Queen of the Night,” and “I Have Nothing.” While “I Will Always Love You” may have been the most popular song to come from the movie, “I Have Nothing” is also very memorable and incredibly challenging to emulate. It’s definitely one of the most powerful songs from the film and the soundtrack.

We’ve seen this song continue in its popularity and it’s a regular choice for musical auditions on talent shows. I’ve seen some regular people perform it very well, but young Dane Miller’s performance is definitely on the top of my list. Dane is 9-years-old, lives in Prosper, Texas, and has Down Syndrome.

“He’s been musical since around two years’ old,” said Dane’s mom, Danna Miller. “He’s been playing the drums. He sings. He loves music. He puts his whole heart into everything he does.”

“He is just very vibrant,” Dane’s aunt, Jeanne Miller, said. “He’s very high-functioning so if he hears music, it’s just something that sticks with him.”

The video of Dane singing “I Have Nothing” during a car ride has more than 19 million views on Facebook. Everyone, including myself, loves his passionate and heartfelt performance of a favorite song.
