Female Choir Sings A Cappella Rendition Of “Amazing Grace”

When voices come together to sing in unison, they produced an unparalleled sound. Each voice carries the other, and when they’re layered, they’re even more powerful. A choir makes any song dynamic and creates energy that lifts the lyrics and stirs the soul. I love listening to beautiful voices work together to create audible magic!

The Brigham Young University’s acapella group, comprising of nine young women, has released a music video singing “Amazing Grace” but with a bit of a twist.

The deeply evocative Christian hymn, “Amazing Grace” was originally written in 1779 by English poet and Anglican clergyman, John Newton (1975-1807). His words are written from personal experience and have since been sung by many who have found themselves in the same emotional space. He grew up without any particular religion, but, through the twists and turns of life, found himself at many crossroads. It’s through these experiences that such a profound song was produced!

Since the time of its writing, this song has become one of the most famous folk hymns in the English-speaking world; it comes with a deep message of forgiveness and mercy. “Amazing Grace” resonates so strongly with everyone that Christian music artist Chris Tomlin adapted and added to the classic to create a new heartwarming rendition.

It is this version that the acapella group has chosen to cover, and it’s beautiful from the moment they start to the second they finish. The video opens to the sounds of birds chirping and a woman in white walking through the woods. She starts to sing and is quickly joined by additional voices. She continues to walk, slowly and mindfully, making her way to the water. As she bends down to touch the cool river, she is greeted by the rest of the choir and together, their voices merge.

All of them are standing in the river’s water, sharing the song and solo. Their message of hope is further pronounced when they light a candle and share the flame, each young woman holding her own wick. The sun is going down but they still stand strong and united. It’s a perfect ending to a comforting and magnificent version of the hymn.

This music video, and the rendition gave me the goosebumps and I’m sure that there are a lot of others who feel the same way.
