I think it’s safe to say that being a teenager is no easy feat. You go through a whirlwind of emotions, feelings, and thoughts as you go through this crucial period of your life, and if there’s someone (or some people) that can truly support you through this time, it’s really your parents. They have an understanding of what’s happening with you because they’ve been through it before, and they know how to handle these feelings, fits of rage, and anger.
But what if one of your parents is serving for the country, and is away for long periods of time? The responsibility of course then is on the other parents to provide utmost attention and care, but deep down inside you always feel a void of your loved one that is missing, or away from your family for a long period of time.
There’s no one that probably understands these feelings of missing your parents/loved ones while they’re away for work, more than this young teen in the video below. Her dad, navy firefighter, had been assigned work in Bahrain and was away from home on the job for 16 months. Upon his arrival back home, mom and dad both decided that it would be a beautiful surprise to show up at their teen’s school while she’s at volleyball practice—she obviously didn’t know who was going to walk through the doors that afternoon.
The family says that the teenager took up volleyball to help her cope with her dad’s absence, and since dad missed seeing her love for the sport grow, what better way to surprise her than seeing her in action on the court! Watch the teen’s reaction as she sees her dad 16 months later, it will definitely bring tears to your eyes.
