One of the realities of life is that we get a little older every day. But, while many of us think of this as a bad thing, it doesn’t have to be. “Age is just a number” is a popular cliché but, the great thing about it is that it is absolutely true.
There are entire industries that exist just to help people stay young, or at least appear that way. But, in my opinion, it has nothing to do with wrinkles, make-up, expensive facelifts and creams, and the color of your hair. It has to do with how you act, how you choose to carry yourself, and most importantly, how you feel in your heart.
The “Dancing Nana” in this video is the epitome of what it is to be young at heart. In her flowered shorts and brightly colored tee-shirt, Nana leaves her house for an outing with her granddaughter. When she hears one of her favorite songs blasting from the car window, she shakes, shimmies, and dances her way down the front steps of her home.
Dancing Nana is a lot of fun to watch, but she’s an important reminder to never take yourself too seriously, even as you get older. It’s easy to get caught up in the mundane parts of adulthood that we all have to deal with but, we all need to step back and take some time to have a little fun. Maybe it’s dancing or perhaps it’s singing, we should always take the lighten up.
It is Nana’s grandchild that shared the day-brightening moment on Youtube:
“Dancing Nana is back at it! For those wondering how this all happens….once a week I pick my Nana up and take her out to breakfast or lunch. Upon arriving at her house, I put my “Oldies” playlist on my iPod, open all the windows, and blast the music. Nana ALWAYS starts dancing when she hears the music so finally I decided to start filming this magic…..enjoy, and dance on!”
It’s not just Nana’s dance moves that the internet loves. It’s also her close relationship to her obviously loving grandchild. One Youtube commenter says it best:
“I love that you pick her up and take her out once a week..we all love her but you are an awesome granddaughter too…can’t wait until mine are old enough to pick me up..thanks for sharing.”
