Little Girl Who Was Born Deaf Hears Her Mom Say ‘I Love You’ For The First Time

Stop and think for a moment what your life would be like if you couldn’t hear the world around you. All of the “white noise” of the world around us would simply go away.

It’s very common for pregnant mothers and their partners to talk to a baby while it is in the womb. Many people play music or read stories, comforted by the fact that their growing child can hear them and know that they are loved and cared for.

When Charlotte Keane was born deaf, there was no definite reason as to why. Her parents love her and are delighted with their otherwise healthy baby, but knowing she has never heard their voices was slightly troubling.

In an emotional Facebook post, Charlotte’s mother, Christy, shared her feelings. “She never heard me tell her how much I prayed for her when she was in my belly, she never heard me welcome her into the world, she’s never heard me sing her to sleep—and the hardest to handle—she’s never heard me say ‘I love you.’”

Little Charlotte is too young for cochlear implants that could give her hearing, so doctors fit her with hearing aids instead. Finally, Charlotte was able to hear her mommy say those important words. The baby’s reaction is precious, and the emotion and delight on her little face are obvious. She has no idea yet how the sound of her mother’s voice will soothe, comfort, and teach in the years to come.

Christy wrote on Facebook about the beautiful first moment: “We had our miracle moment that I have been praying for when Charlotte got her hearing aids today. We didn’t think she would hear anything so this was more incredible than I can put into words!”
