Ellen Calls Her 88-Year-Old Fan On The Phone

There are a couple of specific people I really enjoy talking to. No matter how long we’ve gone without speaking or seeing each other, I know that if I call one of my favorite people, we can easily pick up where we left off. The conversation is always reciprocal and entertaining. Sometimes it’s happy, other times it’s deep and most times, we bounce around between tangents, speaking over each other too excited to contain ourselves! There’s nothing like a good chat with someone you care about!

It’s no wonder that Ellen Degeneres brought on 88-year-old Gladys Hardy. It’s this conversation on one of “The Ellen Degeneres Show” episodes that goes down in history because it is just too good!

When your career is as colorful and long-standing as Ellen’s, no doubt, there’s going to be some favorite moments. Since 2003, Ellen has been entertaining folks around the world. That’s a long time to be on the air! As a result, she’s spoken to some pretty cool people and has made all sorts of friends everywhere, but this woman, in particular, is extra memorable.

The clip opens to Ellen calling her biggest fan, Gladys from Austin, Texas, USA. From the moment the conversation opens, you can tell that this is going to be funny. Gladys is saucy! She’s got a huge personality and is a total chatterbox. She doesn’t skip a beat from the moment she picks up the call saying, “Hello, this is Gladys and if you’re selling something, I ain’t interested…” Of course, both Ellen and the audience burst into a fit of laughter.

This is the first of many conversations Ellen continues to have with Gladys over the years and while they’re all funny, it’s this one in particular that started it all! Gladys is so real, so candid, and it’s easy to see why Ellen loves her. Ellen mentions that she moved the plant as per Gladys’ instruction in a previous segment. Gladys doesn’t seem to really care because she misses the comment and jumps right into discussing the weather and how the city has come to a complete standstill due to the “little bit of ice and two flakes of snow and they shut the whole city down.”

The crowd is in hysterics, and it gets even better when she confesses “I love Jesus, but I drink a little.” You gotta watch the whole conversation!
