Mom Takes Entitled Son Shopping At Goodwill After He Makes Fun Of Classmates Who Shop There

For many kids, attending school isn’t easy. While many children are bright and have an innate desire to learn, it’s often that their peers are the problem and ultimately the reason why some of them don’t want to go to school each day. At all grade levels, there are bullies, and sadly, anyone can be a victim, even for no apparent reason.

Cierra Forney was worried her sixth-grade son, Anthony, would become a bully when she heard him making fun of people who shop at places like Wal-Mart and Goodwill one day. Apart from the worry that he’d make other students feel bad about where they bought their clothes, Cierra worried that Anthony was becoming entitled. In her eyes, it was important to teach her son that money isn’t everything and that you should be grateful for what you have. That said, she decided to take him shopping at Goodwill as punishment.

Not only did Cierra make Anthony shop at Goodwill, but she made him spend $20 of his own money to buy a week’s worth of clothing. The 13-year-old clearly wasn’t happy with his punishment, which was clear as he dragged around the clothing he picked out.

In the end, Cierra knew that her son would be glad she did what she did, maybe not now, but one day.

The mom decided to share her son’s experience in a Facebook post:

“So lately, my 13-year-old son had been acting a little… entitled. Acting like he’s too good to shop at Wal-Mart or making snarky comments about kids at school who shop at the Goodwill and quite a few other things. I don’t tolerate that. Today, he took his own $20.00 to the Goodwill to buy clothes to wear the entire week to school. Whatever he found is what he would have to wear. He isn’t happy and shed a few tears but I firmly believe in 15 years he will look back and laugh at the day his Mom made him shop at Goodwill. I want to teach my kids that money isn’t everything and if you have to degrade other people because of where they shop, then you too will shop there. Side note, I love Goodwill!!”

Fortunately, Anthony learned from his punishment.

“Don’t be spoiled, I might just tell them to be thankful for what you have,” he said in an interview with Fox 5 News.

It looks like Anthony will no longer be judging where people purchase their clothing, and hopefully, he learned the value of a dollar. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have parents buy them clothes, especially at high-end stores!

I think the mother just did that not because he needed clothes but to show him how it feels to have to wear used clothes. It was a good lesson learned.
My daughter & ther friends that I considered mine always wanted new clothes until I told them they could each have xanount to spend on clothes. They could either buy new or shop rummage sales. They learned rummage sales w/used clothes were great. They've continued to do that & they're in their 40's
