Strawberries Can Last Longer When Dipped In A Vinegar Mixture

Nothing says summer like strawberries. These ripe, and red delicious, tangy berries have finally blossomed for all of us to enjoy. I love to eat them sliced with coconut whipped cream, or throw some in a strawberry shortcake or, my favorite, dip them in dark chocolate.

Strawberries are so versatile which is why in North America, they’re found everywhere! Did you know the average strawberry has 200 seeds? Neither did I, because they don’t last long enough for me to count! Let’s admit it, as yummy as they are, everyone who buys a pack experiences the irrational fear that they must all be eaten as fast as humanly possible (which isn’t that hard to do because they’re so good!) before they expire or go bad. Not anymore! This summer, it’s time to try a hack, an oh-so-simple trick, that will change the way you store strawberries.

It’s really basic, and when you open your fridge to reach for the tub of strawberries, you won’t be crying into your bowl of ice cream because they’re spoiled! In fact, they’ll be perfectly fresh and ready to be sliced up to complete your dessert.

Before you get started, do a quick sweep of your kitchen for these items:
–  Strawberries
– White vinegar
– Drinking water
– Large bowl
– Salad spinner or colander
– Paper towels

Got everything? Great! Get them all up on your counter, and follow these next steps:

1. In the large bowl, mix 1:5 parts of vinegar to water.
2. Place berries into liquid in a bowl.
3. Let them soak for 3-5 minutes.
4. While they’re soaking, line the spinner or colander with the paper towel.
5. Place wet berries in paper towel-lined spinner or colander and wait until they’re completely dry.
6. Select container for storage and line with paper towel. Place DRY berries inside and store in fridge.

You just gave these strawberries a new lease on life, and you can rest assured that they won’t taste like vinegar at all! The smell and taste will be completely gone once they’re dry, that’s why it’s so important to put them in the container once they’re completely free of any solution.

Now, all you have to do is dream up all the scrumptious ways you can use them! Strawberry milkshakes, frozen popsicles, pickled strawberries (yes, it’s totally a thing!) and so many more.
