There are so many great people in this world; it’s just not always easy to recognize them as the media often covers stories of people’s wrongdoings. I think that’s such a shame, but luckily, stories of people’s good deeds still do go viral. And this right here is one of those stories.
Onlookers recently witnessed a security guard at a Morrisons grocery store in Giffnock, Scotland by the name of Ethan Dearman holding an umbrella over a dog left outside while it was raining. It was so heartwarming that it eventually caught the attention of several people on the internet.
According to the 23-year-old security guard, he’s used to the rain himself, but seeing the canine being forced to stand out in the wet weather while his owner went shopping broke his heart a little. This led him to grab one of his store’s extra umbrellas to hold over the dog to ensure he wouldn’t continue getting wet.
This way, the dog wouldn’t have to deal with the aggravating rain, but his coat would be drier for his owner when they came out to bring him to the car and take him home.
You’d think this would have been the first time Ethan held an umbrella up for a dog, especially since he’s only being working at Morrisons for a couple of months. Wrong! Just a day before his picture was taken with this particular dog, he held an umbrella above a husky. He really has a soft spot for canines!
The photo of Ethan holding an umbrella for the most recent dog was later posted by the owner, David Cherry, who praised the security guard for their act of kindness.
“Our dog Freddie has [gone] viral after kind security man put up his umbrella for Freddie when it started raining at the Morrisons near my parents house,” David wrote in a tweet. “Good community vibes. People looking out for each other. He’s always nice to my Dad and brother, it’s nice to hear nice things.”
And, eventually, the security guard came across the photo and had his own little message to say.
“Looks like I made a lot of people happy today,” Ethan said in another tweet.
He sure did!
And it seems that Ethan is pretty happy with the recognition he received. “It allows me to cross one thing off my bucket list: becoming famous for doing something good,” he said.
He’s gone viral for all the right reasons: to make people happy and to encourage other people to do good things too.
