The World’s Most Beautiful Horse Turned Out To Be A Hoax.

The internet is always ripe with information but sometimes that information turns out to be bogus. A photo of a horse circulated the internet with the caption to the effect of “world’s most beautiful horse.” Supposedly, the horse lives in Turkey and its coat is so shiny that commentators suggested that the image was Photoshopped. [googlead]

Here is the photo of the “world’s most beautiful horse” that made the rounds on the internet.

So what happened? There is no well-recognized formal award for most beautiful horse. It appears that the photo was taken from a website that had an article titled “Most Beautiful Horses in the World,” in which an arbitrary list was created. This photo actually took the number five spot, but somehow people started sharing the photo, deeming the horse to be the champion.

Regardless, the horse is absolutely stunning! The horse is an Akhal-Teke, which is known for its shiny, metallic coat. The Akhal-Teke has a mysterious past. It was bred and guarded by Turkmenistan tribesmen in the deserts of Kara Kum, and it was only “discovered” by the modern era in 1881 when Turkmenistan was annexed by the Russian Empire. They are very sporty and the breed is found on the national emblem of Turkmenistan. Sadly, there are only about 1,250 of these horses remaining.

The signature metallic sheen of the Akhal-Teke is real. Look at this beauty!

So remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This horse may not actually be the most beautiful horse in the world, but I think a lot of us would agree that the Akhal-Teke breed is gorgeous!
