Rescued Hummingbird Patiently Waits For Her Meal

Each Spring, as the grass begins to green, the trees begin to bud, and the daffodils sneak up in the same places from the year before, the peepers make their music in the warmer evenings, and the animals come out of hibernation and return from their winters in the warmer, southern climates. It’s only Spring, but I start to anticipate the return of my favorite warm weather visitors.

I don’t like the influx of bugs or the sometimes stifling humidity, and I’m not a huge fan of the frightening thunderstorms that down trees and leave us without electricity for days on end. But I look forward to quite a few things about the Spring and Summer. One of those things is the tiny hummingbirds that visit my front porch.

Each year, I hang the hummingbird feeder filled with sugar water from the roof of my front porch and the tiny birds begin to return, drawn by the sweet treat and the red flowers of the shrubs that flank my front stairs. Apparently, hummingbirds love red flowers.

I’m always surprised at how tiny the birds are and their ability to hover in the air, their wings moving so quickly that they are nearly invisible. They flit in and out so quickly and so silently that if I blink, I will miss them completely. As the season goes on, the ones that come back realize I won’t bother them and will come to feed with me nearby, as long as I watch quietly.

I’ve never had to rescue one of my tiny visitors, but a couple in Vancouver, B.C. discovered a little hummingbird on the sidewalk. Before delivering it to a wildlife center, they gave it a little nourishment from an eye dropper.

Watch this adorable bird wait patiently for a snack, and like and share this video with your family and friends!
