20 Facts That Prove John Goodman Is A Good Man

So, not only do we have John Goodman to thank for the awesome Flintstones movie, but we also know that it would be totally cool if we were his waiter (or his mother for that fact). In short, he’s pretty much a pretty awesome guy who is not only kind but also, super talented and popular.

14. He overcame two of his biggest challenges

In 2005, his doctor advised him to lose a considerable amount of weight in order to save his health. He says that that was the biggest challenge of his life, aside from quitting smoking in 2003.

15. He’s never won an oscar

Despite his great acting skills and impressive resume, John Goodman has yet to win an oscar.

16. He’s got a unique way of playing darts

When throwing a dart, he holds the pointed tip with his thumb and index finger and throws it in the opposite end pointing the dart board. In this way, the dart makes a 180 degree turn mid-air. You can see this little trick when he played in the film, King Ralph.

17. He’s a “TV Dad” favourite

He played the role of Dan Conner in the TV sitcom, Roseanne. For this role, he was ranked number 13 in the TV guide’s list of “50 Greatest TV Dads Of All Time”.

18. He quit drinking

The star decided to give up drinking alcohol entirely in 2007 in fear of becoming an alcoholic.

19. He suffered a sports injury which lead him to pursue his love of acting

In his first year at Missouri State University, he suffered a sports injury that effectively ended his then-dream of becoming a professional athlete. It was then that he changed majors and pursued drama.

20. His big breakthrough was in 1987

It was in 1987 that Goodman was spotted by an ABC talent recruiter who asked him be the lead role in the TV sitcom, Roseanne. He was acting in a stage production of Antony and Cleopatra in Los Angeles at the time.
