Mama Hen Suddenly Appears To Have “10 Extra Legs” When It Starts To Pour Rain

Moms are heroes and I’m convinced they have superpowers. I swear it! My mom knows when I’m hungry and can sense it from a mile away. She just has this sixth sense about it. And, even when I’m far far away, overseas, all it takes is hearing my voice and she knows if I’m genuinely happy or just putting on a face. She can read me like a book, no matter what!

It’s a mother’s engrained maternal instinct that makes her such a nurturing caregiver to the point where she would put her life on the line, or feed her offspring before herself with zero questions about it. Moms would do anything to keep their babies safe, fed, warm and dry!

This video made me giggle. They put their babies first, period. Standing outside in what appears to be miserable conditions, a hen is seen in the pouring rain. While she looks a little uncomfortable and I don’t like to think of animals stranded in a downpour, I think it’s the epitome of what moms do for their young. It’s grey, and gross and cold-looking outside, and she’s hanging out with her wings spread open, standing on what looks like multiple pairs of feet!

The camera pans in and suddenly, all those feet make sense! This adorable and loving hen is protecting her brood of baby chickens from getting wet. Here she is, as an umbrella, using her wings and her body as a way to shield her young from the pounding downfall, sacrificing her own comfort for the safety and protection of her chicks. She blinks her eyes and doesn’t budge an inch, while she tenderly provides shelter for all of her chicks. You can hear little, muffled chirps and noises coming from underneath her as the babies remain as still as she is. It’s like they are all just waiting together for the storm to pass, keeping each other warm.

I’m not sure why the crew didn’t seek out proper shelter, anything really, some kind of overhang or a little cove area, but mama hen is doing the best she can with what she’s got! This poor chicken is giving everything she can and the babies seem ok. Hopefully, someone took them out of the rain after capturing this footage!
