16 Things You Never Knew About ‘Matilda’

Kids tend to feel relatively “powerless” in an adult world, so it was so easy for them to identify with Matilda. But this movie is also a great reminder for us to never take our loving and caring parents for granted!

4. The family’s last name is Wormwood. Wormwood is actually a poisonous plant that can cause convulsions and kidney failure.

How very fitting. Aside from Matilda, the family was totally toxic and just the worst!

5. The painting of Magnus in the Trunchbull house is a real life portrait of none other than Roald Dahl, the author of the Matilda book that the movie was based on.

Sadly, the legendary author passed away in 1990 at the age of 74. Roald Dahl was responsible for some of the greatest children’s books of all time, including James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Fantastic Mr. Fox. Roald’s daughter, Lucy Dahl, was one of the producers for the Matilda film.

6. Keaton and Kyle Tyndall were originally casted to play Matilda. But when they came down with a bad case of the flu, the role was given to Mara Wilson at the last minute.

Remember these two from The Bold and the Beautiful?
