16-Year-Old Girl Sings Angelic Rendition Of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”

Leonard Cohen’s 1984 song, “Hallelujah,” may be over three decades old, but hundreds of covers of this non-secular tune still flood the web. There are many reasons why Cohen’s song is so popular to date. From the beautiful melody to the poetic lyrics, both spiritual and non-spiritual folks find this a memorable, one-of-a-kind masterpiece that Cohen graciously gave to us. Although Cohen is no longer amongst us, “Hallelujah” is a song that still strikes a chord with everyone.

Apart from being an all-around great song personally and musically, “Hallelujah” is quite versatile. We often complain that cover artists ruin our favorite songs, but somehow, Cohen’s famous tune never becomes tainted when others put their own spin on it.

One incredible cover of the 1984 song is by a 16-year-old solo artist, Mckenna Breinholt, that took place June 9, 2015, at the Mesa Arts Center in Mesa, Arizona. While born in another generation than the song was released, Mckenna proves that you can never be too old or too young to enjoy great, quality music.

Backed by an orchestra and choir, the performance begins with a soft, soothing symphony. Shortly after a piano chimes in, Mckenna begins to sing as the camera slowly pans onto her as she’s decked out in an off-white dress, a chiffon kimono-styled cardigan, loosely-waved locks, and pink lips.

Hearing the young woman sing, one can’t help but notice how characteristic her voice is. Closing your eyes, you could recognize her raw singing voice instantly!

While still a teenager, Mckenna already has the voice of an angel, which is perfectly suited for Cohen’s song. Goosebumps and shivers down your spine will certainly be experienced when you listen to her sing. Although she could have covered “Hallelujah” acapella and still have won our hearts over, the talented orchestra and choir in the back made the cover even more heavenly.

Apart from “Hallelujah,” the female singer has also covered “The One That Got Away” by Katy Perry, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana,” and “One” by U2. She has also released original songs of her own.

Mckenna began gaining musical experience since she began taking piano lessons at 11-years-old and began singing and playing guitar at the age of 12. Mckenna’s career involves singing at parties, weddings, talent shows, and local charity events. Although her career is still in its early stages, we’re confident that it will have no problem really taking off!

You’ll be stunned when you hear how powerful the teen’s voice is in the video below! If you enjoyed this rendition, be sure to share her video and check out more of her music on her YouTube channel.
