Cleaning the home doesn’t always have to be a drag. For the most part, we hate waking up on a Saturday morning and starting the day off by bringing out all the cleaning products. It can be quite the chore, I know. But, what if I told you that there are ways to make cleaning fun?
I can’t guarantee that’ll you’ll have a ball of a time, but I know that if you try these DIY toilet cleaners, you have some experimenting on your hands that might make things a bit more interesting!
They work like magic, especially the dish soap method which is at #3!
1. The Classic Kool-Aid Trick
Move over toilet bowl cleaner, we’ve got a new winner in town!
Do you stock up on Kool-Aid for the grandkids when they come over for a visit? If so, then there’s more than one use for this sugary drink that everyone loves. Although it might not sound appetizing, knowing that a powered drink is also useful for cleaning the toilet, believe me when I say that it WORKS!
All you have to do is take the contents of one sachet and pour it right into the bowl. Let the powder sit in the toilet for up to an hour (the longer the better) and then come back and scrub the bowl with the toilet brush. Et voila, a fun experiment results in a clean toilet!
2. The Old-School Vinegar Hack
If you didn’t know, vinegar kills germs and bacteria faster than ever. It’s also a very eco-friendly cleaning method so, you can flush it down the toilet all you want. In this next video, you’ll see how vinegar works its magic to get the toilet-cleaning job done right. All you need to get started is a bottle of all-purpose vinegar, an empty spray bottle, some tissue paper, your toilet bowl brush, and a toothbrush.
Start the job by pouring a good amount of vinegar into your toilet tank and directly into the toilet bowl. Then, pour some vinegar into a spray bottle and spray the seat to give it a good clean, as well.
You’re going to stuff the tissue paper under the rim of the bowl so that you get into all the nooks and crannies. Let the paper soak up the grime for a few minutes. Then, you will remove the paper and clean the inside edges with the toothbrush.
3. The Dish Soap Declogger
Chances are, you have experienced a clogged toilet at least once in your life. So, when this happened, what did you do? Panic? Sounds about right. I would do the same thing, followed by calling the plumber and ask him to come over as soon as possible.
But, both of those things can be avoided. All you need to fix a clogged toilet, the next time it happens, is some dish soap.
You take some dish soap and you squeeze a generous amount into your toilet bowl. You’ll notice that the weight of the liquid will cause it to sink to the bottom of the toilet and seep into the clog, lubricating the trapway. Then, take some hot water and carefully pour it into the toilet bowl, making sure you don’t let it overflow! Wait it out for a little bit and you should have a working toilet in no time!
This video will show you exactly how it’s done!
4. The Toilet Cleaning Bombs
This one is fun! If you want to get creative and make a little something to clean the toilets, then these cleaning bombs will be right up your alley. It’s a rather quick DIY project that you can work on one weekend and store for a good amount of time to come.
The good thing about these toilet bombs is that you just throw them in and flush! With other DIY cleaners, you have to soak and scrub — this is so much easier!
Here’s what you’ll need to get started:
- 1/2 cup of baking soda
- 1/2 cup of citric acid
- essential oils
- spray bottle with water (optional, to spray in essential oils)
To make things a little more fun, your mold can be in different shapes!
