6 Ways To Keep Pests And Bugs Out Of The Pantry And Kitchen

There’s nothing worse than a pantry and kitchen infested with bugs. Do you try to keep your kitchen squeaky clean but pesky pests still manage to roam around amongst snacks and foods stored neatly in your pantry? Sometimes they come around even in the winter season, and it drives everyone crazy! Well, there are ways to ensure that they don’t ever come back.

Repellents are the number one go to for everyone who’s experiencing these issues, but really, there are other ways you can prevent bugs and pests from getting into your kitchen. In the list below you will see some best practices to keep the pests away, for good.

1. Use airtight containers to store goods

The food stored in airtight containers will not only stay fresh for longer, but pests and bugs won’t be able to smell it either which means they won’t be attracted to that area of the pantry.

2. Store cereal in easy-to-open containers

Always opt for easy-to-open, and airtight, containers for cereals and snacks. This technique will make it easier on kids to open the jars but also ensure the pests stay away!

3. Stack snacks out of their boxes

Many of us may not know that pests love cardboard so they can easily get into snacks that are stored in these boxes. As long as snacks are individually wrapped, it’s best to take them out of the cardboard and stack them in a container.

4. Use cinnamon

If bugs smell the strong scent of cinnamon, they are bound to stay away. Simply add the cinnamon to a small bowl and place it in the pantry to prevent them from coming in. You can also use cinnamon oil and spray small amounts of it in the kitchen and around the house.

5. Draw a line with chalk

This one is to prevent ants from infesting the kitchen. It may sound crazy, but ants will never cross a chalk line. Outline the floor of your pantry with chalk and they’ll never step foot inside.

6. Smear petroleum jelly on the bottom of your pets food bowl

Ants tend to house in pets’ food bowls. To prevent them from doing so, take petroleum jelly and make a ring around the bottom of the bowl.

Did you find these tips at all helpful? If so, then there are probably others who will too! So don’t forget to like and share this post with family and friends!
