100-Year-Old Grandma’s Wish To Dance With A Mountie Comes True

We all have little (and big!) heart wishes, and they evolve as we get older. The dreams we had as kids may not be the same as when we become adults. But, that’s ok, they change with us, as a reflection of what we want deep down. Some might be silly, others unattainable but no matter what, they make us who we are. And it doesn’t matter how many years you’ve been on the planet because as long as you’ve got life in you, wishes really can and do come true!

Case and point, Elsie Shepherd from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, just celebrated her 100th spin around the sun, and she couldn’t be happier celebrating the big day. Not only is she surrounded by friends and family, but she also got a special visitor that made her day extra special, and made her wish come true!

It was just a normal day at Elsie’s nursing home, except that it was her birthday. And a very special one at that! This spunky three-digit senior was enjoying her birthday party held at the Extendicare Elmview care home in Regina, when something different happened! It was a lovely celebration attended by friends and family, and even a few Royal Canadian Mounted Police (colloquially referred to as “Mounties”). The care home reached out to Cpl. Daryl Chernoff and other RCMP members to ask if they could attend, in uniform, to make the occasion even more momentous!

“When we saw that, we made arrangements to have a number of us go to wish her a happy birthday,” said Cpl. Daryl Chernoff. It was when Elsie mentioned several times that her birthday wish is to dance, Cpl. Daryl Chernoff stepped up to the plate and decided he needed to do something about it. He asked Elsie’s son for permission, then promptly went about to make it happen. Elsie is wheelchair bound and with limited mobility, but that didn’t stop the two from dancing!

Cpl. Daryl Chernoff took the birthday grandma’s hand and started to push and move along with her in a very sweet video that captures the sheer delight of a young-at-heart woman who just wanted to dance with a Mountie on her birthday.”It felt very heartwarming to me. Here she was, she’s 100-years-old, and she’s getting out on the dancefloor like she really wanted to,” he said. “It was a special moment for me and I really hope it was for her as well.”
