Man Reveals Hidden Room Under Kitchen Island

Ever since I was a child, I’ve been fascinated with hidden doors that lead to clandestine spaces! It can be any secret room or crawl space. I blame it on my first Nancy Drew novel, “The Hidden Staircase,” the best suspense novel any kid could read!

You know the kind of unexpected, cool feature I mean – the harmless-looking bookshelf that, with the touch of a hand, slides to reveal a staircase into another room. Or the trap door beneath the carpet that leads into a secret part of the basement. Even that extra storage hidden behind a painting or a hollowed out book that looks real when it’s tucked away on a bookshelf. The idea of a concealed space or a mysterious room is thrilling and appeals to the curious nature of humans. It’s straight out of an adventure or detective novel!

The original purpose of these secret passages and tunnels was to stealthily move people and goods or escape or enter without being detected. They were first built in castles and estates of wealthy individuals. Sometimes, they were for criminals, other times they were for royalty.

In this video, and in this day and age, it’s not so much about smuggling or moving. The man is in the kitchen of a home he’s renovating, looking at a plain old kitchen island. It’s white with a grey cement counter. He takes a moment to pause on the island before he touches the top. Using only one hand, he pushes the seemingly stationary cement counter to reveal something other than what meets the eye! This is such a neat home renovation that is sure to bring years of joy to the owners, not to mention a perfect conversation starter for when they have company.

Check it out below, and trust me when we say this: It’s going to make you want a secret counter immediately!
