Piglet Headed For Slaughter Falls Off Truck Only To Wind Up With A Way Better Life

This little piggy went to market. This little piggy stayed home. This little piggy had roast beef, and then THIS little piggy fell off a truck! Can you imagine? Here you are en route in the back of a truck with all your best friends, and you have no idea where you’re going. As far as you know, you’re headed out on vacation, but then something happens, and you fall out on the side of the road and break your leg!

It’s devastating. Everybody you know is now on their way, and here you are broken, and sad. Little do you know that this is the best thing that could have ever happened to you! Especially when you’re picked up by an exceptional human like this.

Headed straight to the slaughterhouse down the interstate, a commercial truck full of piglets was on its way when one little piggy literally fell out. The 2-week-old pig took a tumble and ended up on the side of the road. It was one driver who stopped traffic to immediately pull over and rescue her; this action changed the course of this little piggy’s life. This Good Samaritan scooped her up and brought her to Randy Grim, founder of Stray Rescue, in St. Louis, and Randy’s Rescue Ranch, in O’Fallon, Illinois, a rescue ranch where he tends to large animals like abused horses and dogs on hospice. Randy says about his farm, “That magical farm I always heard about as a kid where all the animals are, well, I finally get to live there.”

Randy named her Pickles (aka. the Miracle Pig), and they seemed to have found each other at a very good time. Having just lost his mother and gone through a major medical scare, Randy has been out of commission, piecing his life together and trying to get back to work on the farm. And then this little miracle shows up!

“You can’t save them all, but we got to save one piglet and that’s pretty amazing,” says Randy. Pickles and Randy have since established a friendship, getting along and becoming buddies. While Pickles is still cute and little now, over the next 6 months she’s going to grow and become closer to 300 pounds. Aside from the size difference, Randy explains that when pigs are raised with love and by someone who cares, they are just like dogs. So, what’s in store for this little piggy? Randy wants to raise her as a therapy pig and invites everyone to come to his ranch and take pictures! Talk about a living, breathing, oinking miracle!
