People Expect Humpback Whales And Spot Rare Albinos Instead

Traveling to a new country means getting to check things off your bucket list! With so many new sights to see, delicacies to sample (or eat in abundance), and things to do that aren’t normally a part of your everyday routine, it’s such a thrill to delight the senses and pique curiosity.

There’s something for everyone to uncover in a new land. While some prefer going on a gastronomic adventure through the city, others might enjoy coming face to face with new wildlife far away from the thriving metropolis. Depending on which country you find yourself in, I think animal sightseeing can be just as wonderful as posing underneath the Eiffel Tower!

If you’ve ever had the experience of spotting a whale in open water or having an impromptu encounter with an animal, it doesn’t take long to realize how incredible the experience is. To come so close, only meters apart with a creature you’ve only heard of in stories or seen on TV is a reminder that there is so much more to life on planet Earth than mere humans.

It’s a pretty captivating moment! So, imagine when whale watchers come out each season, expecting to see friendly giants emerge from and submerge into the ocean, only to notice something a little different – an all-white humpback whale. Not only is this albino whale totally beautiful to spot, but they are also extremely rare!

This video is captured footage of one out of three white humpback whales that have been recorded in the region, off the east coast of Australia. The first porcelain whale was sighted in 1991, and he was named Migaloo. Famous for being the one and only albino whale, there are two more albino whales that have been spotted since then. Researchers speculate Migaloo could have fathered two white calves – Chalkie and Migaloo Jr. With multiple breeding grounds on the humpback whale’s long migratory trek, and potentially a genetic mutation like albinism, it’s quite possible these two calves were fathered by Migaloo.

Migaloo has become a bit of a celebrity, as whale-watchers are always on the lookout for him. Due to his popularity, there have been many legal changes in the surrounding area to keep the waters safe, rendering boats, jet skis and other watercraft as far away as possible to protect the waters.
